La Palma (actually, ' San Miguel de la Palma ') is situated in the northwest of the seven big Canary Islands. These form one of seventeen autonomous communities of Spain. La Palma lies in the Atlantic. The island has a surface of 708 square kilometres. With this, it is the fifth-biggest of the Canary islands. It belongs to the Spanish province Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
